Unfortunately, there are lots of over-hyped methods, deals and even scams on the internet that not only don't work and will waste your time, but moreover will waste your money! If you are serious about making money online, and maybe new to the game, you will most definitely want to watch out for some of these:
The first is Online Surveys. Have you ever received an email or seen a graphic ad on how you can "work from home" taking surveys? Everybody has right? Don't waste your time here. Surveys are extremely time consuming and sometimes they don't even pay you! My fiancé did get paid after completing 40 surveys over a period of a few weeks. Her paycheck was a whopping $40, which equated to slightly less than $1 per hour! Can you afford to build an online business at this rate? There are people getting paid for this, the people who offer such schemes. I would avoid getting involved in any Online Survey scheme.
Next are Online Lotteries. How many people do you know who have actually hit the lottery jackpot? I don't personally know anyone. It's the same online. Nobody wins, and the accountability of the hosting organization is easily called into question. Don't be tempted by easy money here, avoid Online Lotteries and so called Free Lotteries. Remember, our goal is to build a business, not just hope to get lucky, right?
Online Contests go hand in hand with lotteries. In the past, maybe you received an email proudly proclaiming "You've just won! Click here to claim your prize!" But, did you really win anything? Were you given the opportunity to spend more money? Of course, it's classic marketing. If you feel like you could win a lot by spending a very little, why wouldn't you? There are tons of these companies online just waiting for you to fall into their trap! Again, don't confuse the chance of winning something with actually making money online through a viable business of your own.
Finally, everyone's favorite - Online Casinos. Did you ever notice the most spectacular and grand hotels in the world can be found on the Las Vegas strip? How in the world, can they afford to keep outdoing each other in size and grandeur? It's simple, the house always wins! Maybe you've had some luck at a casino yourself. If so, do you now feel like you can confidently repeat the process that led to your windfall? More often than not, people lose moneys at casinos. Online Casinos are an even more convenient way to lose money, as you a laptop away from the action! So, unless you have the capital to open your own casino, you should avoid the casino's charm.
Do you see a pattern here? Games of chance are not practical or reliable means of building a business. The whole idea when getting started making money online is to build a methodical, replicable business plan. You need a plan where you can follow your methods to a predictable income. There are 3 steps to make money online and work from home. None of these steps require that you sell or promote anything. This is not affiliate marketing, paid surveys, AdSense or AdWords or any of the things many marketers tell you, you need to do.
The 3 steps to making money online are quite simple. The steps are motivation, belief, and staying focused. Combine all three of these and you will make money. It is a lot harder than it sounds.
Staying Focused
When you are working from home on the internet it is so easy to get distracted from the actual business of making money. There are people trying to get your attention at every turn. Everyone has some earth shattering information that they are going to try to convince you that you absolutely need to make money on the internet.
Those so called Internet gurus are some of the best salespeople. They have some of the top copy writers that know exactly how to grab you and convince you that you need what it is they are selling in order to make money online.
Especially now with the Web 2.0, social networking is huge on the Internet right now. You start getting involved in these social sites and before you know it you are off in a totally different direction than when you started.
Do not believe that all those people are really making the kinds of money they are claiming. If they were truly as wealthy as they claim, do you think that they would be hanging around on the internet everyday trying to get you to buy from them?
Stay focused on what you are doing and disregards all the noise coming in. Find a mentor you can trust and follow them. There are many people that will help you out for free. Do not buy those big launch programs promising you dollars falling from the sky.
Believe In Yourself
Trust me when I say that many people are going to try and dissuade you from making a full time living off the Internet. You have to constantly tell yourself if you stay the course you will succeed.
Unlike a normal job, you will not have a boss or co-worker telling you how well you are doing. Until people start to follow you around and start listening to what you are saying, you are the only one who can gauge your progress. Perhaps when you start to make money online you will start believing in ability as an online entrepreneur.
Until you can see that you are reaching your goals, whether it is monetary or personal, believe that you are growing toward your goal. Your belief in yourself is going to carry you when there is little to stand on. You will eventually hit your target as long as you believe you will.

When you first start out to make money online, find what is motivating you to do so. Are you looking for financial freedom? Are you trying to bring in extra income to take your family on vacation? Are you looking to supplement your income or be a stay at home mom?

I started to make money online because I had lost a job due to downsizing and need to replace my income. In a climate of many jobs moving out of our area the Internet seemed like the perfect place to make money.
I was fortunate to be able to replace my income. But as time went on circumstances changed and I found new ways to be motivated to make money online. I found I needed to make more money so I had to grow into other areas of Internet businesses. Once you hit one goal raise the bar and you will grow financially and personally. The sky is the limit on the Internet.

Is Making Money Online REALLY So Hard?
Well, this is the question that everybody has been asking but nobody REALLY wants to answer it honestly because they're afraid that the honest answer is going to scare away all the potential customers. Well, I have no such fear. While the truth may tick off a lot of people, I think it will also earn their trust as well. So here goes...the honest answer to the question, "Is making money online REALLY so hard?"
The answer is an unequivocal YES. A resounding yes, to be more precise. I'd even go as far as to say it's easy to dig ditches and give birth than it is to make money online. I mean it's so hard...
Okay, has everyone run for the exits yet? Is there anybody still reading this?
Well, going on the assumption that there is STILL somebody out there, I am going to continue. See, if you really DO want to make a living online, you're going to want to read what comes next.
It may just save your life.
Okay, so making money online is hard. Got it.
But why is it so hard. Is it hard in itself, or is it hard because most people don't put in the time and effort required to make it work?
Well, it's a little of both.
For starters, while the Internet is relatively in its infant stages, there is still a ton of competition out there, especially in the niches where a good deal of the money is being made, such as entertainment, health and of course, commerce, or making money. I don't really know which of these three niches is the most competitive. Doesn't really matter. They're ALL hard. So that doesn't help.
But in addition to that, most people who come online to earn a solid income, or even just supplement their income, don't have a clue what's involved. They think they can either join some program or put up a web site and the money will come pouring in. I hate to break this to you, but it doesn't work that way. You need a variety of skills to pull off running a business online including...
Writing
Advertising
Organization
Planning
Product Creation
And that is just the tip of the iceberg. There's also tech skills and communication skills. In other words, you have to have a bit of a brain to make it in business, online or offline.
Okay, so how am I able to generate a 6 figure a year income?
Was it luck?
Far from it. I worked very hard to get to where I am. Oh, did I forget to mention that? It's hard work too. I sometimes put in 14 hour days. It helps that I enjoy what I do, but make no mistake about it...it's WORK.
It took me years to get to where I am. Part of the reason is that I didn't have the resources that are available to online marketers and home business owners today. I had to figure it out on my own. It wasn't fun.

You can pretty much get it all in a manner of weeks. No, I'm not envious. Okay, I'm a little envious. But nobody should have to struggle like I did. Today there is help...lots of it.
